The Best Skiing in British Columbia.
In my latest guest blog, Liz from Canadian Affair encourages us to explore her top three holiday destinations for skiing in British Columbia, Canada.
British Columbia is home to some of the world’s most reliable snowfall, making it an ideal destination for a ski holiday. Pack your skis and head to the beautiful mountain resorts of Whistler, Big White or Revelstoke for some of the best skiing and snowboarding in the Americas.
Here are her top tips for making the most of your ski holiday to British Columbia…
Whistler Blackcomb.
North America’s number one ski resort is often listed as Whistler Blackcomb. It is easy to see why. With two mountains (including 200 runs, 3 glaciers and alpine bowls) and incredible backcountry skiing, you won’t be short of piste to explore. Nor off-piste activities to enjoy. Whistler Blackcomb is also home to fabulous après ski, great dining, and (if you’re feeling up to it) some amazing nightlife!
Top Tip: Travel on the amazing Peak2Peak Gondola between Whistler and Blackcomb mountains. Enjoy awe-inspiring panoramic views of the surrounding area. Get the first lift up and enjoy breakfast on the mountain before making the first tracks of the day.
Big White.
Big White has over 2,700 acres of ski-able terrain. It is known for being Canada’s largest ski-in, ski-out resort. Besides that, it is famous for its fabulous Champagne Power snow, with over 750cm falling every year.
Regular sunshine illuminates the picturesque Okanagan Valley and the surrounding scenery. Together this makes Big White one of the most attractive ski resorts in the world. Plus, after a hard day on the slopes there’s plenty of choice for après bars and restaurants.
Top tip: Think outside the box, especially if you’re traveling with family, and try a snowmobile tour, sleigh riding, tubing or dog sledding.
Revelstoke.
Revelstoke is an adventure seekers paradise. Well known as one of the best places to Heli- or Cat- ski. Thanks to an average annual snowfall of 40-60 feet, it is also named ‘powder capital of Canada’ . The resort has evolved into a thriving ski and snowboard destination because of its varied terrain and outstanding runs. Long sunny days on the slopes can be enjoyed by intermediate and advanced skiers. They just need to watch out for panda eyes!
Top tip: Travel on the longest vertical lift in North America. The 8 person ‘Revelation Gondola’. It has has a vertical ride of 3,547 feet… not one for the faint-hearted!
