Zugspitz is a 2,962m high mountain that borders Austria and Germany. Each has it’s own piste map, but both can be skied using one ski pass.
You can find the latest Zugspitz Piste Map for skiing in Austria here. Or for skiing on the German side here. The German side is actually bigger still with the inclusion of the former Olympic town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
Known as ‘The Top of Germany’, the Zugspitz ski pass includes the ski resorts of Zugspitze, Garmisch Classic, Ehrwald, Lermoos, Berwang, Bichlbach, Biberwier, Heiterwang am See and Namlos.
2020 is a Special Year for Zugspitz.
On 27th August 1820, Lieutenant Joseph Naus climbed the Westgipfel, the almost vertical route to the summit of the Zugspitze, for the first time. 110 years later, on 8th July 1930, the newly built cogwheel train to the Schneeferner made its maiden voyage and wowed the public. Bayerische Zugspitzbahn Bergbahn AG will be celebrating these two historic milestones when they are able.
