pop quiz: the lyric above is from what song and artist? clue: could Morrissey really ever be described such?

Smith I-O Recon Ski Goggles. Fantastic gadget – but is it going too far?

Smith I-O Recon are being sold by a number of ski retailers, those like Sail & Ski, Chester/Shrewsbury, Edge & Wax, Horsham, Absolute Snow, Hemel Hempstead at a price that would make your eyes water; even if you were wearing the googles. For me? Yes – too far in terms ski gadgetry and price!

You may recall that I opted for Smith Vice whilst Andrew purchased: Smith I-O Black with Red Sensor Mirror Lens, with a spare low light lens. High performance goggles, but no electronics – maybe next year!

2020 UPDATE: It looks like the electronic tech may have been a gimmick after all. The I/O Recon goggles are no longer for sale on the SMITH website. Instead they’ve introduced MAG lenses.

“The I/O MAG™, utilizing the Smith MAG™ interchangeable system, is designed for optimized performance and perfected fit. Two locking mechanisms for lens security. AirEvac™ ventilation for fog-free integration with Smith helmets, and a frame designed for contoured face fit. All this technology is designed around one of Smith’s largest spherical lenses. It provides a maximized field of view and 5X™ anti-fog technology.”

And if that wasn’t enough…

“You can now see more than ever before. The all new 4D MAG™ raises the bar for lens innovation with the introduction of BirdsEye Vision™. Compared to the I/O MAG™, this state of the art lens technology has a 25% increase of field of view.”
