One of Austria’s most famous ski resorts, Obergurgl sits at the eastern end of the picturesque Ötz Valley in the Austrian Alps.

The traditional Tyrolean village centre is set around a church and benefits from having no through traffic at all, making it that little bit safer.

The resort has a very family – friendly feel and features a children’s kindergarten ski area and ski school, giving youngsters the chance to develop their skills before moving onto the wider open slopes of the resort’s blue runs.

For those of you who want to take in spectacular views of the valley, the stunning glass-top Mountain Star restaurant sits at 3,080m and definitely won’t disappoint.

The nearby ski resorts of Tignes and Val d’Isere often overshadow Sainte Foy.

Popular with British and Dutch families. The resort features an impressive fenced off nursery slope next to the village. Here beginners have plenty of space on the green runs to hone their skills.

The childcare facilities include the P’tits Trappeurs nursery, which looks after children aged 3 to 11 and the Cub Club. The latter holds party nights and kids’ discos on a regular basis.

The pistes maybe limited compared to the bigger resorts nearby. However, the main attraction for many visitors to the resorts is the off-piste skiing. The area can be explored with a guide and there are special zones that are avalanche-controlled.

Alpbach, Ski Jewel, Austria.

There are great ski kindergartens and nursery slopes in the centre of the village. These add to the family friendly nature of the resort.

Families with children up to the age of 15 can benefit from a free ski pass during special winter family weeks. There is also an active kids club to keep them entertained when they aren’t skiing.

With excellent ski schools and a kid’s centre in place, families are able to take advantage of all the childcare facilities they will need.

There are also plenty of great restaurants and mountain huts to spend time in as a family. Whilst the breathtaking scenery is a joy to behold.
