Cairngorm Mountain Railway to be Closed for the Ski Season.

Nothing Much Could Happen.

You may recall that, just before the start of the ski season, the media and the operators of the Cairngorm Ski Resort announced the ‘temporary’ closure of their funicular mountain railway due to structural problems. At the time, they didn’t have any snow either, so not sure too many people would have been planning a weekend skiing anyway.
Now, we are into the new year and according to Snowplaza, the ‘temporary’ closure of the mountain railway looks like it is set in for the season. The resort is offering skiers discounted ski passes and free parking. They have opened all the drag lifts and have invested around £1 million in snow-making equipment.
Personally, I’m not sure what good that’ll do as there is still no natural snow in the region and the temperatures are yet to drop low enough to make snow. So, other than absolute beginners, who are happy on the nursery slopes, using drag lifts; and locals, who can pop-out for a couple of hours when the conditions are ideal; I just don’t see the attraction of a ski trip to the Cairngorms.
I am very happy to hike in the Cairngorms in the Summer; during brief midge-free periods, but I’ll stick to traveling further afield for my skiing thanks.
