Obertauern Ski Resort, Salzburgerland, Austria.
Stormy Weather Turns to Blue.
pop quiz: the lyric above is from what song and artist? clue: a bull from the man with ‘those’ bells.
Obertauern is a purpose built ski resort in Austria’s Salzburgerland region, on the Eastern borders of Austria’s ski areas. It is a high mountain pass, sitting high on the edge of the tree line and boasts an excellent snow record – averaging 264 cm each season.
From many of its modern, chalet-style hotels you can ski to and from the door; quite rare in Austrian ski resorts, and still be on the doorstep of a lively après ski scene in the resort centre.

For mixed ability groups, The variety of terrain, including excellent off-piste powder fields when the snow is fresh, makes Obertauern a good choice. Especially those who don’t feel confined by the Super 7 pistes shown on the piste map.
You’ll find 95% of the 100km+, groomed, red and blue pistes are covered by snow canon, so Obertauern is a sure bet for a snow guarantee.
Crystal Ski recommend Obertauern for being snow-sure and purpose built: Maybe next season!
pop trivia: everyone has, ‘Tubular Bells’ by Mike Oldfield, but this is from his sixth album, QE2 released in 1980. The track is ‘Taurus’; Mike’s star sign.
